Wadden sea and sandy beach
Those who like it mild and romantic prefer the Baltic Sea. Those who like it wild and rough are in the right place at the North Sea.
What is special about the North Sea is the wonderful Wadden Sea. At intervals of six hours and around twelve minutes, a special feature of the North Sea is clearly evident: low tide follows high tide – or vice versa. The tides have created a unique natural area on the North Sea coast: the Wadden Sea. The Unesco world natural heritage extends from Denmark via Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg and Lower Saxony to the Netherlands.
Some of our holiday apartments are located in Kappeln, which is in Schleswig-Holstein. The special thing about Schleswig-Holstein is that you have both the Baltic Sea and the North Sea coast there. There you can easily compare the different characters of the beaches. It is often very windy on the North Sea coast and there are long beaches with dykes. On the Baltic Sea, on the other hand, you will find sandy beaches that are suitable for a typical beach holiday. But you will also find one or the other beach with fine sand on the North Sea.

Wind and weather on the North Sea and Baltic Sea
Das Rennen hier gewinnt in jedem Fall die Ostsee. Die Ostseeküste Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns gilt als die sonnenreichste Region Deutschlands. Wer also gerne einen Sommer-Sonne Urlaub plant, sollte sich für die Ostsee entscheiden.
Wer jedoch auf Wassersport steht wie z.B. Kite-Surfen oder Segeln, der sollte zur Nordsee tendieren. Denn die Nordsee ist für ihr stürmisches Wetter bekannt. Das liegt daran, dass die See in der Zugbahn von nordatlantischen Tiefdruckgebieten liegt, und diese wiederum sorgen für wechselhaftes und stürmisches Wetter.
Aktivitäten an Nord- & Ostsee
Nordsee oder Ostsee – wer sich im Urlaub sportlich betätigen möchte, der sollte sich sein Ziel gut überlegen. Joggen, Walken oder Beachvolleyball spielen kann man an beiden Küsten gut. Doch was zum Beispiel den Wassersport betrifft, gibt es ausschlaggebende Unterschiede. Meer ist nicht gleich Meer!
Die raue Nordsee sorgt aufgrund des starken Windes häufig für guten Wellengang. Für erfahrene Kite- und Windsurfer oder auch Segler ist die Nordsee daher perfekt. Wer eher zu dem gemütlichen Part gehört, der kann eine Watt- oder Deichwanderung unternehmen. Doch achtung! Wer noch nie durch das Watt gewandert ist, sollte in jedem Fall die erste Tour eine geführte Wattwanderung machen. Denn viele unterschätzen das zurückkommende Wasser! Die Flut kann trockenes Watt in wenigen Minuten in reißendes Wasser verwandeln.
Wer also eher Anfänger im Wassersport ist, der ist an der ruhigen Ostsee besser aufgehoben. Für Reiter, Wanderer und Radfahrer gibt es zudem an der Ostsee mehr Möglichkeiten als an der Nordsee.

Familienurlaub: Urlaub mit Kindern
Die Ostsee zählt zum klassischen Reiseziel für Familien, denn aufgrund der etwas ruhigeren See und dem nicht ganz rauen Wetter können Eltern und Kinder etwas entspannter im Meer plantschen.
An der Nordsee kann es schon mal zu starken Strömungen im Wasser kommen. Aber der geringere Salzgehalt und die etwas höheren Temperaturen machen das Baden für Groß und Klein an der Nordsee etwas angenehmer. Familienfreundliche Attraktionen wie Museen und Wasserparks gibt es an beiden Küsten.
Gesundheit
Viele Mediziner raten besonders bei gesundheitlichen Beschwerden wie Lungenkrankheiten oder Ähnlichem zu einem Urlaub an der See. Das Reizklima am Meer ist für seine gesundheitsfördernden Effekte bekannt und hat schon zu vielen Erfolgen der Heilung beigetragen. Die Nordsee hat hier einen deutlich höheren Salzgehalt als die Ostsee zu bieten. Doch dafür hat die Ostsee eine deutlich sauerstoffreiche Luft an den Küstenwäldern zu bieten. Beide Reiseziele haben hier ihre Vorteile.
